After reading many of the Humphrey the hamster series (Ryder devoured 11 of them) over the summer among the
The Egypt Game - (top favorite)
Whittington (second favorite)
This "school" year has been more rewarding than most. With the gift of Non Violent Communication to set our way I feel we are more connected with ourselves and our whole as a family. As the boys learn more of how to check in with themselves and uncover the deeper needs, express them in a way we can all experience a more wonderful life - at home, during our learning and throughout life. My highest goal for the boys.
While the homeschool requirements for our state say 1000 hours of learning I love that every moment is a learning that is easily moving into mastery, for myself as a mom, a wife, as a woman, as a teacher, a healer, as a business owner. They are all inter-related and inter-connected.
Enki connection is still missed but the materials keep their simple gifts in my life. So I am happy that Dax will have Enki for the next 2-3 years as far as the curriculum from Enki.
Fourth Grade is "a blast" with the Norse Myths, Animal Studies, Geography as the main focus. Added to that the typical subjects of (my favorite books are from Werner - oldies but goodies) reading, writing, spelling, language, math, science, social studies,
history, health, occupational education, and art and music appreciation.
Occupational Education was a new subject requirement but we had been doing this all along with field trips to the local Fire Department, Police Department, Grocery Story tour and Post Office Tour. Now I just plan it and focus it a bit more. Bringing in the derivations has been wonderful in incorporating all of the other subjects into this one component. So it turned out to be a positive piece.
In fact I now have a plan for 50 occupations this year to investigate on weekly basis. This week we are focused on Cooking. Monday: We visited a chef (she calls herself a wagon cook) but she is a highly trained professional chef and was an executive chef for many years. It was insightful and wonderful for me. Ryder politely listened. This week we will practice with these concepts and learn the different "hats" there are in a "kitchen". From the chef to the line cook. Fascinating actually!! I'm super excited for this addition to our learning! What is feeds is our natural need for connection and I'm thrilled for the opportunity.
Tuesday: Continuing with reading and writing with Dax. Ryder's cursive practice continues in everything he now writes.
Animal studies focus incorporated building a maize for Frankie (our hamster) inspired by the story we recently read "Ralph S. Mouse".
