Telling Stories
Be expressive
Let the Story speak for itselve
vary the tempo, timing, intonations
As you tell the story - visualize it - describe it,
alllow the story to unfold
speak clearly and slowly

I hereby recommit to writing here ...
I re-commit to writing a weekly synopsis of our homeschooling life, taking photos and video and sharing my discoveries of self and our family along this journey. May our family have these as memories and a gift to our future selves. May any who need to read this find their way to it and be blessed as it blesses me and our family to do so. And so it is.
GLOW Soup For Nourishing Good Health
Thursday is our soup making day.
This week and at least once a week we enjoy a favorite GLOW soup for our special supper.
To know that direct connection with food and it's effect on our bodies is one of the most important concepts I can teach my children for their life long well being.
When I made our Family Web (an idea from Enki Education) I added holistic health. Nutrition, herbs, connection to the earth and seasons, food as our medicine and medicine as our food, these are the important pieces of what I am that I desire to share with my boys.
This soup was from a microbiotic cook book called Glow I bought years ago. It includes Cabbage, onion, carrot, wakame and miso. It's delicious, healing and powerful soup!

Annual Tradition of Stone Soup
Every year a couple of weeks before "school" begins officially we revisit the story of Stone Soup.
This summer we have been learning about Monks - espeically Tich Nache Hahn. He has some wonderful children's books as well as books for the whole family.
So this year's Stone Soup version was of monks visiting a village.
We read this story a couple of weeks ago and in the vain of Enki education allowing for the story to "rest"

The Egypt Game - (top favorite)
Whittington (second favorite)
This "school" year has been more rewarding than most. With the gift of Non Violent Communication to set our way I feel we are more connected with ourselves and our whole as a family. As the boys learn more of how to check in with themselves and uncover the deeper needs, express them in a way we can all experience a more wonderful life - at home, during our learning and throughout life. My highest goal for the boys.
While the homeschool requirements for our state say 1000 hours of learning I love that every moment is a learning that is easily moving into mastery, for myself as a mom, a wife, as a woman, as a teacher, a healer, as a business owner. They are all inter-related and inter-connected.
Enki connection is still missed but the materials keep their simple gifts in my life. So I am happy that Dax will have Enki for the next 2-3 years as far as the curriculum from Enki.
Fourth Grade is "a blast" with the Norse Myths, Animal Studies, Geography as the main focus. Added to that the typical subjects of (my favorite books are from Werner - oldies but goodies) reading, writing, spelling, language, math, science, social studies, history, health, occupational education, and art and music appreciation.
Occupational Education was a new subject requirement but we had been doing this all along with field trips to the local Fire Department, Police Department, Grocery Story tour and Post Office Tour. Now I just plan it and focus it a bit more. Bringing in the derivations has been wonderful in incorporating all of the other subjects into this one component. So it turned out to be a positive piece.
In fact I now have a plan for 50 occupations this year to investigate on weekly basis. This week we are focused on Cooking. Monday: We visited a chef (she calls herself a wagon cook) but she is a highly trained professional chef and was an executive chef for many years. It was insightful and wonderful for me. Ryder politely listened. This week we will practice with these concepts and learn the different "hats" there are in a "kitchen". From the chef to the line cook. Fascinating actually!! I'm super excited for this addition to our learning! What is feeds is our natural need for connection and I'm thrilled for the opportunity.
Tuesday: Continuing with reading and writing with Dax. Ryder's cursive practice continues in everything he now writes.
Animal studies focus incorporated building a maize for Frankie (our hamster) inspired by the story we recently read "Ralph S. Mouse".

The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home.
May! WOW.
Spring is in full bloom with the fruits of our winter planning and planting coming to blossom. Seeing my boys grow and develop and learn with a strong interest in whatever it is they choose to learn is a delight.
I had been a very systematic, structured, checklist type of girl and likely would have home schooled this same way. I'll admit I still have my checklist items but I'm learning to use them for support in creating healthy rhythms and routines for our family, our homeschooling experience and our lives both personally and professionally.
I'm grateful and I'll say very lucky that Waldorf education was introduced to me by a mom when Ryder was just barely 2. It changed me as a person as I was very logical and had lost touch with my more natural side. I'm sure folks who knew me before would say I was unsympathetic and was all about "getting it done".
When I see Ryder mimic that behavior I have to stop and do some adjusting as I know where he has gotten that.
This will serve as a mini wrap up of the 2015/2016 school year for Ryder -4th grade and Dax 1st grade.

Was It Neglect or Was It the Best Thing For My Children?
Last year I opened a studio where I could share my knowledge and systems and support with more folks.
I had started with a business plan based on a 20 hour work week and 1565 square foot studio space. 7 months in I grew out of the space, had an 80 hour work week (which was actually 1161 square feet) and then tried to "fix" the problem by working even more - when it became 16 hours a day 6 days a week - it nearly killed me - literally.
What it did for my boys and home-schooling? That's still coming to light. But in the last 8 days since closing the doors of the studio, bringing my private clients to my home where I had originally started from, and getting to be with my sons every day all day, I've discovered that someone was watching out for me and my boys and Divine Grace was at work here. For that, I'm grateful and I humbly acknowledge the God presence in our lives at this time.
These two boys needed there mom, not a computer program, not an app, not a semi-school program and certainly not to be put in public school - they needed ME. Present. Healthy. HERE.
Over the weekend I poured through all of my curriculum I have invested in over the years, ENKI, Waldorf Essentials, Earth Schooling, Well Trained Mind, Charlotte Mason and my heart was raw with emotion and exuberant with joy that I have a second chance.
Thank you Sweet Spirit for your gifts that I may share with my boys.
As a mother I feel I did neglect them - although I always made sure they had 4 meals prepared every day for them, I checked their work when I could but they were in front of a computer screen - what I hate the most for longer than I would have wished for anyone. Even though I know schools now use it as a main tool I still do not believe the computer is the best tool for learning.
I saw things that I had instilled in them still carry them forward but I would also see influences from youtube and mine craft and other shows that created a voice in them that was not their's.
They observed much hard ship and constant work from me and care for my clients but they did not get the attention and focus that I wish to give them and feel is more important than anything at this time.
So many thoughts going on but I will end this here. I will write more because it is my best way of self discovery.
For my boys - I love love love you and am grateful for every moment I get to be your mom. Thank you for the lessons I learn as I "home school" you both!
